So for the longest time I’ve had two computers – one linux server and one windows PC. In an earlier post I talked about how I unplugged my Windows machine and made the switch to running just Linux. However, I thought I’d still need both machines because I’d need something in the other room with the TV & stereo to play all my movies and tunes from. Turns out that isn’t necessarily the case any longer, since I found out my PS3 supported uPnP boradcasts since it meets the DLNA standards. With a little hunting, I found a pretty decent uPnP server which ran in Linux called Fuppes. I grabbed the latest sourcecode from sourceforge, did a little ./configure; make action, toyed with the configs, and viola! I got to watch Conan the Barbarian on my TV & surround sound while the PC hosting it sat in the other room. Two scoops of cool! Now I’m just wondering if anyone wants to buy a used AMD64 with 2GB of RAM and a pretty decent video card!
